Jennifer Garner was born on the 17th of April, 1972 in Houston, Texas but was born to be raised in Charleston, West Virginia. Her father, William John Garner, was a chemical engineer for Union Carbide. Patricia Ann was a teacher at the local university. To follow her father, she graduated with an engineering degree in chemical science. In order to pursue her dream of acting the actress decided to move into New York and try her attempt at Hollywood. In addition to appearing in Broadway productions, she was a waitress at the nearby restaurant. Her cameo was in the show "Felicity." (It it was on that show when she met her first husband Scott Foley.) Garner was first seen in Alias which is an action-thriller. Her first big part was in the acclaimed love story 13 Going on 30. She played a young woman trapped within a 30years old body. Garner chose Gary Winick (director) to direct the film. Together, they looked for projects that could be made before Winick's passing in 2011. The year 2009 was the first time Garner has been named as an ambassador to the arts for Save the Children U.S.A. The role includes promotion of national literacy along with nutrition, early childhood education and different aspects. Since 2014, Garner has been a member of the trustees' board of this organization, pushing for early learning for children. As an ambassador, she frequently meets with families who are part of the organisation's Early Steps to School Success program that guides families on how to help youngsters to learn.
